EDMUND BLAMPIED
1886-1966
Born in Saint Martin, Jersey.
Left school at the age of 14 and went to work in the atelier of an architect in Saint Helier.
He was wonderful in pen and ink works, caricatures of politicians and went to study at the Lambeth School of Art, the London Council School of Photo-engraving and Lithography at Bolt Court. At the same time working for the Daily Chronicle, other newspapers books and magazines. His etchings received a great attention and admiration.
In his military life, during the I War it was a gap in commissions for illustrations but in 1919 was quickly re-established.
His first exhibition was held in 1920. And in 1923 the first one with etchings and drawings.
A few years later he began working also as a cartoonist and caricaturist.
During the II War he had difficult periods of life spent in Jersey and, after the war he remained there painting oils, watercolours and a few etchings. Also designed postage stamps.
