Pintor, aguarelista e ilustrador.

Pós impressionista e membro do grupo Les Nabis, assumiu-se compagnon de route do impressionismo e do fauvismo sobretudo porque as cores lhe exigiam a distorção das proporções.

A sua mulher Marthe foi o seu modelo, a inspiração própria duma relação amorosa forte e duradoura.
