MAXWELL BATES
14 December 1906, Calgary - 14 September 1984, Victoria, Canada
One of the early modernists in Canada.
He was a painter, architect, printmaker and poet.
Studied with Max Beckmann at the Brooklyn Museum of Art School in New York.
Also worked as a teacher in lithography.
