GERARD SEKOTO
9 December 1913, Botshabelo, South Africa - 20 March 1993, Nogent-sur-Marne, France
The pioneer of black South African art was born in a German Lutheran Mission Station in Transvaal.
An artist mainly recognised for the way he captured the humanity and realism of everyday scenes.
In 1947 he went to London and later to France.
After an accident, and strongly injured, he was forced to stop his artistic life.
