LASAR SEGALL
21 July 1891, Vilnius, Lituania - 2 August 1957, São Paulo, Brazil
Brazilian Jewish painter, sculptor and engraver.
Studied at the Art Academy in Berlin from 1906 to 1910.
He moved to Brazil in 1923. Ten years later went to visit Paris and Germany and founded, with other artists, SPAM (Sociedade Pro-Arte Moderna).
In 1940 published his series of Mangue drawings.
His home in São Paulo is now the Museum Lasar Segall.
