AMADEO MODIGLIANI
12 July 1884, Leghorn, Italy - 24 January 1920, Paris, France
A descent on his mother's side of Spinoza.
He learnt the elements of painting from a landscape painter in Leghorn.
In 1906 he went to Paris where he lived a bohemian life. There, Cézanne's work came as a revelation to him and exercised a decisive influence, also influenced by Toulouse-Lautrec and Picasso.
Encourage by Brancusi he began to do some sculpture influenced of Negro Arts.
Modigliani was one of the most outstanding figures of modern Italian art. He had no predecessors; he had no successors.
From 1917 and the following years came a series of nudes and portraits of working-class people.
In 1918, when his works began to be known, his health, illness and privation came until he died in 1920. His wife killed herself on the day of his funeral.
