JAMES ENSOR
13 April 1860 - 19 November 1949, Ostend, Belgium
His grand mother's shop, in which she sold masks, was the first inspiration for his art.
He studied at the Brussels Académie des Beaux-Arts.
Ensor was a great pioneer and his technical innovations opened the road to expressionism, while his fantastic works are precursors of surrealism.
