DON HONG-OAI
1929-2004
He was born in Canton, China, the youngest son of 24 brothers!
Began working at age 13 in a Chinese photo and portrait shop.
In 1936 his parents sent him to Saigon, Vietnam, where he lived until 1979, despite the war.
During that periode he went to France for one year.
When he left Saigon went to San Francisco living and working as a photographer in studio.
After a few years returned to China to live in Taiwan.
I like his photos, his way to adapt the oriental with the ocidental standards with a curious technique of layering two or three negatives for each photo. Photos like paintings.
His work has won several international awards.
"On river", China, 1982
"Lanterns light the Way", Guilin
"Boat"
