M. F. HUSAIN
1915-2011
Born in Pandharpur, India.
He attended the Sir Jamstjee School of Art in Mukbai.
Husain began his carreer painting cinema posters in Mumbai and later for the Bollywood film industry.
In 1966 he was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri.
His paintings hurted the religious sentiments of Hindu nationalists groups and it was mounted a campaign against him.
His house was attacked by those groups and most of his art works were vandalised.
Those groups also led to the closure of an art exhibition in England. Neverthless, he became the best-paid painter in India.
