JOHN SLOAN
1871-1951
Born in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, USA.
He studied at the Central High School in Philadelphia and, in 1914, he taught at the Art Students League and also at the George Lucks Art School.
Sloan was one of the founders of the Ashcan School of American Art.
Known for his urban scenes, he was considered the best artist, at the time, painting the life of New York city.
His art got influences of European artists and Japanese prints.
The works of John Sloan are represented in most of the major American museums.
