GERT HEINRICH WOLHEIM
1894-1974
Born in Dresden, Germany.
He studied at the College of Fine Arts in Weimar until 1914. And, in the following three years he was in the military service during the I World War.
After he went to Berlin, then Dusseldorf and, with Max Ernst and Otto Dix, among others, created the "Young Rhineland" group.
During the Hitler power his works were declared degenerate art and were destroyed.
He left Germany and went to France where he lived a few years before moving to Switzerland.
But the bad luck continued. He was arrested in 1939 and forced to work in labor camps.
In 1947 moved to New York and became an American citizen where he died in 1974.
