JOHN CRAXTON
1922-2009
Born in London, United Kingdom.
Studied in Clayesmore School. And when he applied for Chelsea School of Art he was considered to be too young to attend nude live classes.
Instead studied at the Académie Julian and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.
Completed his studies in London at Westminster School of Art.
After the war he travelled to Sicily, Turkey, Spain, Switzerland, Italy and Greece.
Considered a neo-romantic artist but preferred too be known as a "kind of Arcadian". But he was also a ballet designer, produced the scenery and costumes for the Royal Opera House and illustrated books and magazines.
During his long life he lived in Ghania, Crete and London.
