She was born in 1953 in Melbourne, Australia. As a child went with her Welsh family to the United Kingdom.
Studied art and design at the Loughborough College and also at Saint Martins School of Art in London.
She painted a considerable number of self portraits but her global work resonates with the work of Paula Rego and Max Beckman.
She is now considered the most exciting and successful Welsh painter of her generation.
The artist writes: "My desire is to produce powerful, emotional paintings which are read for their content, their colour and their abstract elements....I paint about my studio, my children, childood memories...."
Shami is winner of numerous prizes and most of her works belong to private and public collections, specially abroad.
