1881-1941, Woerden, The Netherlands.
He was student of his father, the painter Willem Gestel, and in the Royal Academy of Arts in Amsterdam. During is artistic life he experimented expressionism, cubism and futurism.
Gestel spent a few time in Germany, Paris, Belgium and also in Majorca. In this island he lived a few years with his wife and in his works the landscape was his motive. Those paintings, between the reality and abstraction, were painted with imaginary colours.
Unfortunately in 1929 the majority of his works were lost when a fire destroyed his studio.
Neverthless he left good works some of them in the several museums in the Netherlansd and also in private collections.
