OTTO DIX
2 December 1891, Unterhausen - 25 July 1969, Singen, Germany
Studied in Dresden and Dusseldorf.
Settled in Berlin and then returned to Dresden to become professor at the Art Academy.
He had to resign to serve in the German army during the last war and then, in 1946, went to live in Hemmenhofen.
Dix began working in a realistic style, as in his portrait of his parents. His keen sense of reality and truthy led him to a technique known as Neue Sachlichkeit.
As with Grosz, his work provides a satirical commentary on wartime and post-war life.
