JEAN DUBUFFET
31 July 1901, Le Havre - 12 May 1985, Paris, France
He went to Paris in 1918 to began studying art.
From 1924 he divided his time between painting and commerce.
Ten years later, he produced some masks, marionettes and mouldings.
But his real artistic career only began in 1942 when he started to concentrate on painting and lithography. But painting only for himself considering being to old for a new career.
From 1946 he became a constant target for the newspaper critics, mainly after his exhibition Mirobolus, Macadam & Cie.
During the end of the 40's he undertook several journeys in the Sahara returning with many drawings and gouaches.
His work was influenced by l'art brut (the work of recluses, eccentrics and mental cases) of which he had  a vast collection.
In his works he liked experimenting unusual materials such as sand, tar, chacoal, varnish among others.
His work is based not on reason but on sensibility and intuition.
