JEAN BRUSSELMANS
13 June 1884, Brussels - 9 January 1953, Dilbeek, Belgium
He worked as a commercial engraver and lithographer and, at the same time, studying the Académie Royal des Beaux Arts in Brussels.
After his Post-Impressionist beginnings he soon moved towards an Expressionism that was apparently cold and severe.
Four years later he joined the circle l'Effort (James Ensor, Spilliaert and Jos Albert) and became friend with the Fauvists.
His first exhibition was in Antwerp in 1921.
During the difficult period of the Second World War his artistic life declined until the last day of life.
