OSCAR JESPERS
22 May 1887, Antwerp - 1 December 1970, Brussels, Belgium
Studied art in Antwerp where he lived until 1927 when he settled in Brussels.
Member of the Groupe des IX, L'Art Vivant et l'Art Contemporain.
Honorary professor at the Institut National Supérieur de l'Architecture et des Arts Décoratifs in Brussels.
Starting with Impressionism it was not long before he, reacting against the academism and convencionalism of the 19th century, sought to bring the problems of composition in sculpture once more into the lime-light.
He worked directly on stone close to Cubism and in the twenties his style developed to Expressionism.
As a teacher he exerted a considerable influence.
