FRITS VAN DEN BERGHE
3 April 1883 - 23 September 1939, Ghent, Belgium
He began studying art at the Ghent Art School and, in 1905, he settled in Laethem-Saint-Martin.
With Permeke and the brothers Gustave and Léon de Smet he formed the second Laethem Group.
In 1913 he spent a few months in the United States and, when the war began, he moved to live in Holland returning home only in 1923 to live at Ostend during a couple of years until definitely in Ghent.
He was a gifted artist, a man of great culture and remarkable intelligence.
His works are a fantastic Expressionism pieces of art.
