TSUKIOKA YOSHITOSHI

Foi um artista relevante e inovador quer na pintura quer na xilogravura.

Percorreu todos os temas, desde a paisagem ao figurativo (personagens históricas, míticas e figuras femininas).

Ao longo da sua vida como artista, para lá de ter deixado mais de 10000 obras, foi mestre para largas dezenas de outros artistas a quem deixou a sua marca.

MARY PETTY

This illustrator of books and magazines began her career with the New Yorker where she stayed during 39 years.

She was graduated from the Horace Maun School in New York.

JOSÉ MALHOA

28 Abril 1855, Caldas da Rainha - 26 Outubro 1933, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Portugal

Foi pintor, desenhista e professor de Português. 

E, como artista, o pioneiro do naturalismo em Portugal.

Com apenas 12 anos de idade já estudava na Escola de Belas Artes. Mas, apesar do seu enorme talento, nunca conseguiu uma bolsa para ir estudar para o estrangeiro.

Foi o primeiro presidente da Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes e condecorado com a Grã-Cruz da Ordem de Santiago.

Na sua terra natal, e em sua homenagem, foi criado o Museu José Malhoa que merece ser visitado.

KIYOSHI SAITO

27 April 1907, Fukushima - 14 November 1997, Tokyo, Japan

Very young boy he lived in the Island of Hokkaido where is father worked in the coal mines in Otarn.

At the age of 13 he lost his mother and was sent to live in a buddhist temple.

When he had the chance to leave that life, and dreaming to be an artist, he went to Tokyo. There he learned the techniques of woodblock printing.

He worked also as an illustrator for newspapers and also as a commercial graphic designer.

He won the prize for a woodblock print at the São Paulo Biennale in 1951.

Today he is considered one of the great masters of the modern Japanese printmaking.

The simplicity of his works is simply beauty.

GUERNICA

Obra de Picasso que merece ser vista e revista.

Em 26 de Abril de 1937, há precisamente 81 anos, aviões alemães, às ordens do General Franco, em plena guerra civil,  atacaram a cidade Basca de Guernica durante 3 horas.

Era dia de feira, muita gente nas ruas. Resultou a morte a 1654 pessoas e quase mil feridos.

Este quadro de Picasso, inspirado nesse facto, foi exposto pela primeira vez na Exposição Internacional de Paris de 1937.

Painter, sculptor and poet, studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.

In 1948 he was one of the founders of the movement Cobra.

His works has been exhibited in many galleries from New York, Paris, Vienna and Amsterdam among others all over the world.
