WILLIAM GLACKENS
13 March 1870, Philadelphia - 22 May 1938, Westport, USA
He graduated from Central High School in 1890. And after his graduation became an artist reporter for the Philadelphia Record.
Worker in many other different jobs until he decided to travel to Europe. There, he studied the Dutch masters and then moved to Paris.
In 1904 married the artist Edith Dimock.
During his life he was critized and branded as an imitator of some french painters.
I don't agree. He was himself, the realist painter, the american impressionist and, at last, the early american modernist.
His older brother was the cartoonist and illustrator Louis Glackens and one of these days I'll show some of his works.
