SIGRID HJERTÉN
1885-1948
She was born in Sundsvall, Sweden.
Studied in Paris under Matisse and Cézanne influence and from that results the way she dealt with colours. In a style closely related to the german expressionists.
She returned to Sweden in 1912 when she participated in a group show in Stockholm. At that time happened her first exhibition followed by many others .
During 1934 she traveled with her family through the South Europe continuing to paint despite the negative critics towards her works.
She won the public recognition only in 1936 when she had a well received solo exhibition at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm.
She died after a 10 years period of a mental illness, diagnosed with schizophrenia.
