FLORINE STETTHEIMER
1871-1944
Born the 29 August in Rochester, New York, USA.
She studied at the Art Sudents League of New York and became a painter, poet and designer but more widely known for her costume and set designs.
She rarely showed her paintings and refused sale any of her works. Florine didn't have to sell because she came from a wealthy family.
Florine created the sets and costumes for the production Four Saints in three acts and the opera Virgil Thomson.
She was an American modernist of a german jewish heritage.
