ROGER SOMVILLE
1923-2014
Born in Schaerbeek, Brussels in Belgium.
He took drawing lessons at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels during a couple of years and then studied at the Higher National School for Architecture and Decorative Arts.
As student, he was influenced by the Workers Movement, Marx and Lénine and became a member of the Communist Party mainly as a result of his great sensibility.
He got diplome from École National des Arts Visuels in Cambra.
Member of "Tapisserie de Tornai" (1946), de Forces Murales (1947), Ceramique de Dour (1951), Mouvement Realiste (1969) and Collectif d'Art Public (1979).
From 1947 to 1986 he directed the Academy of Watermael-Boitsfort.
His work is exhibited in several museums in Belgium, Mexico, Saint Petersburg, Sofia and Paris among others. Also his creations "Le triomphe de la Paix" at the Communautés Européenes (80m2) and "Le triomphe du Brabant" at the Museum in Brussels (80m2).
