PAUL DELVAUX
(1897-1994)
Was born in Antheit, Liège, Belgium.
Studied architecture and then painting in Brussels.
In his career he dabbled in expressionism and impressionism but, later, when he saw the exhibition Minotauro with works from Chirio, Dali and Magritte the surrealism influence came to stay.
In 1946 spent some time in Paris and draw illustrations to Claude Spaak.
Between 1950-1962 was professor of painting at the École Nationale Supérieur d'Architecture in Brussels. And became member of the Commission de Peinture Moderne des Musées Royaux des Beaux Arts in Belgium.
In 1975 an important retrospective of his woks in the Modern Art Museum in Tokyo.
In 1981 met Andy Wharol in Brussels who draw several portraits. At the same time 50 works were exposed in the XVI Bienal of São Paulo.
Among so many exhibitions I was lucky to visit 2 of them. In 1991 at Grand Palais in Paris and in 1997 in Brussels. (I can say, precisely in 20/07/97 because I kept the ticket until now!)
